DYWIDAG Delivers Stay Cable System for Gordie Howe International Bridge

Designed to strengthen trade, enhance connectivity and provide a safe crossing over the Detroit River, the bridge will support the economies of Canada and the United States for decades to come.

Bolingbrook, IL, Sept. 01, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DYWIDAG, a global provider of structural and geotechnical engineering solutions, today announced its contribution to the Gordie Howe International Bridge, a bi-national infrastructure project along the United States and Canada border.

Connecting Windsor, Ontario with Detroit, Michigan, the Gordie Howe International Bridge creates a vital new link at the busiest commercial land border crossing between the two countries. DYWIDAG’s scope of work includes a stay cable system, installed to address the long cable spans of the bridge, which connects Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan via six traffic lanes and a multi‑use path that enhances regional cross‑border mobility.

Project Delivery and Collaboration

“The Gordie Howe International Bridge represents a collective effort for cross‑border infrastructure construction and its delivery,” said Roger Frenn, DYWIDAG project representative and North America Mega Projects Lead. “Early collaboration and integrated design were critical to a more seamless approach to facilitating constructability and ensuring this iconic structure meets the highest standards of performance and durability.”

The structure was built to be compliant with both U.S. and Canadian engineering codes.Throughout the construction phase, DYWIDAG provided technical support for installation and stressing activities as well as specialized equipment rental, to ensure safe and efficient execution, with stay cable installation taking place between January 2023 and June 2024.
